Backwards thinking

Sometimes we look at things backwards compared to God. I would say most of the time we see things strictly from our human perspective, which is a natural way of doing things. However we serve a supernatural God who is not bound by human vision. He has a destiny and a plan for us that goes beyond our natural understanding.

Acts 21:12-13 MSG

12-13 When we heard that, we and everyone there that day begged Paul not to be stubborn and persist in going to Jerusalem. But Paul wouldn’t budge: “Why all this hysteria? Why do you insist on making a scene and making it even harder for me? You’re looking at this backward. The issue in Jerusalem is not what they do to me, whether arrest or murder, but what the Master Jesus does through my obedience. Can’t you see that?”

Apostle Paul was on a journey to Jerusalem and stopped along the way to visit with disciples. In several different ports he had people tell him, through the Spirit, that chains and imprisonment awaited him at Jerusalem. Apostle Paul knew this was true but was still determined to fulfill Gods plan for his life.

Apostle Paul knew in his spirit that he was to go to Jerusalem and would not be swayed by possible persecution. He told one group of disciples that they were looking at this backwards. He stated the issue was not want they can do to me at Jerusalem but what Jesus can do through my obedience in Jerusalem.

God wants us to see things the way He sees things. He has given us His Word and His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. We cannot look or rely on our natural vision and be afraid to step out in faith. God needs us to be obedient to His guidance and to trust in His vision. When we do this we will see what He can do through our obedience and be amazed!
