No dozing off!

Taking a long road trip can be exhausting especially when traveling at night. Night traveling can be dangerous because we can easily start to doze off. It seems the closer we get to dawn the harder it is to stay awake.

Romans 13 11-14 (MSG)

11-14 But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!

Apostle Paul is giving a warning to believers not to get weary in their Christian walk. He was telling them not give up on doing good and to stay busy doing God’s work.

At times we can easily get discouraged in our Christian walk. Even for those who have not made the decision to follow Christ can get weary with life’s journey. We all have our day-to-day activities and obligations that take a portion of our time. Eating, sleeping and working all have their proper place in our lives. These activities take a portion of our allotted time here on this earth and are necessary for us to function. In themselves these are not bad things.

Apostle Paul is warning us however to keep these activities in their proper order. He is letting us know that if we are not careful we may lose track of the spiritual time clock. We can easily let the cares and obligations of this life take priority over God’s purpose and calling for our lives. Jesus is coming again to take His followers Back to heaven in what is called the rapture of the church. There is a limited amount of time each one of us has to influence our world. We should be cognizant of that time in relation to the spiritual significance that our lives impact others.

Weariness is something we all have to stand watch against. If we allow ourselves to fall into weariness, on our earth journey, discouragement can set-in. If we are not careful discouragement set-in turns into temptation to give-in. When we give-in sin is at our door knocking to get-in. There is something about being discouraged that brings on temptation to give up.

That’s what Apostle Paul is speaking about here in these scripture. He is reminding all of us to stay focused, remember what time it is and to wake up to the reality that all of these earthly activities are temporary. The night of our earthly journey is almost over and the dawn of our new life is almost here.

Let’s not doze off at the wheel of this road trip that we are all on. Let’s not get caught up in the worlds sins, bickering and way of life. If we are in the sin ditch of life we will not be able to offer Jesus’ loving hand of help to lift others out. We need to wake up, stay focused and be busy sharing the message that Jesus is coming!
