Our kingdom

Our Kingdom

I am sure we all have thought at some point, “If only I were in charge or King for a day.” The reality is we all have been given our own kingdom.

1 Kings 2:10 (MSG)
Then David joined his ancestors. He was buried in the City of David. David ruled Israel for forty years—seven years in Hebron and another thirty-three in Jerusalem. Solomon took over on the throne of his father David; he had a firm grip on the kingdom. Solomon
Galatians 4:4 (MSG)
But when the time arrived that was set by God the Father, God sent his Son, born among us of a woman, born under the conditions of the law so that he might redeem those of us who have been kidnapped by the law. Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.

We all have been assigned our very own kingdom here on this earth. Before we go to the ticker tape parade we first need to understand what our kingdom consist of. The Bible says that when we made Jesus the Lord of our lives that we became children of God and joint heirs with Christ. As joint heirs we also have a kingdom.

When King David left this earth he put his son Solomon in charge of his kingdom. The Bible says that King Solomon had a firm grip on the kingdom. Just as King David put Solomon in charge of his kingdom, when Jesus ascended to the Father He told us, His followers, to continue His work here on this earth. He even said that we would do greater works than He did because He was going to the Father.

We all have our own spheres of influence, our kingdom. How do we get and keep a firm grip on our kingdom? We do this by renewing our minds to God’s will and purpose for our lives. We must seek God’s will daily, as Jesus did, then act upon what we are told to do. As we follow Jesus’ example and the Holy Spirit’s instructions, we will keep a firm grip on our assigned kingdom.

There are people in our lives that no one else may ever be able to influence. They are in our sphere or kingdom of influence. The kind of king we decide to be, is up to us. Will we be a just and noble king? Will we lay down our lives for the benefit of others, as Jesus did? Will we let an enemy of the kingdom come into our kingdom and harm us or the ones we love?

Let’s be the king that we are supposed to be, modeled after the True King’s example, Jesus. Let’s keep a firm grip on our assigned kingdom and in the end lay down our earthly crowns at our Savior’s feet. He will be pleased to say “Well done, good and faithful servants, enter into the kingdom that was prepared for you!”
