Sleeping through a Prison break.

prison break

“They could sleep through a train wreck”, “Slept like a baby” are two sayings we’ve all heard. A peaceful night sleep is something we all desire to have.

Acts:12:6-9 MSG

Then the time came for Herod to bring him out for the kill. That night, even though shackled to two soldiers, one on either side, Peter slept like a baby. And there were guards at the door keeping their eyes on the place. Herod was taking no chances!
7-9 Suddenly there was an angel at his side and light flooding the room. The angel shook Peter and got him up: “Hurry!” The handcuffs fell off his wrists. The angel said, “Get dressed. Put on your shoes.” Peter did it. Then, “Grab your coat and let’s get out of here.” Peter followed him, but didn’t believe it was really an angel—he thought he was dreaming.

Peter was about to be executed. Herod had already killed James, John’s brother. The night prior to Peter’s execution God sent an angel to the rescue. Peter was shackled between two soldiers and sound asleep when the angel appeared.

Peter was asleep even though he knew he was about to be executed. The angel also had flooded the place with his light where Peter was jailed, but Peter slept on. When the angel showed up Peter was sleeping so soundly that the angel had to wake him up. Now that is peace and trust in our Savior. Peter almost slept through his own jail break. We also read that many had gathered together and were praying for him.

We might think sometimes that our prayers don’t make a difference but we see that is not true. Not only did Peter get rescued but he had great peace and comfort during the situation he was going through. Prayers made the difference in Peters rescue and peace in his situation.

If we want to have the kind of peace that Peter had we first have to place our complete trust in God and His ability to save. Peter did not fret and neither should we. God has everything under control. We just need to pray about our situation, turn it over to God and rest in Him.

So let’s pray for our families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, our leaders, our nation and the nations of the world. Our prayers do matter and they do make a difference. After we have prayed we can sleep like a baby knowing who our Father is and that He has everything under control!
