Take a rest

take a load off

Psalm 55:22 (MSG)

Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders— he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin…

Mathew 11:28-30 (MSG)

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

In this passage from Psalms we see that King David is instructing us to cast our troubles on God’s shoulders. The Holy Spirit was speaking through King David in this Psalm and repeated it again through Jesus in the the book of Mathew.

Jesus is telling us to come to Him, hang out and learn from Him and we will recover our life. Jesus wants you to be free from the burdens, the shackles of sin and weights of this world.  When we feel tired or worn out by life’s struggles, our jobs, our needs, our health issues, our brokenness, we need to turn to Christ.

That does not mean we quit our job and sit under a shade tree all day long with a harp. It means that we are not alone through our struggles, it means we can rest a bit because through the struggles we have a Helper, a Friend who will take the load for us and who will deliver us through every situation we might face, in victory!

Whenever we feel burdened or weighed down by this world, we need to go to Jesus and say, “Jesus, this weight is too heavy for me and I feel I can’t take it anymore. Please take this situation from me and give me rest. Please fulfill Your Word and deliver me, for I know you care for me. You instructed me to come to You and that You would help me. So now Lord Jesus give me Your help, I pray in your name Jesus.”

At that point we know He is there helping and taking our load from us. If we start to feel that burden or load try to come back we say “No, I refuse to accept what I have already given to Jesus. I cast the thought of receiving that struggle down. I have given this over to the Creator of the universe who instructed me to do so. I refuse to take it back under the instructions of my God. Therefore I am free!”

So when we feel we are struggling with a situation, burdened by the weight of life, chained by sin, let’s turn to Jesus. He is there with arms opened wide, ready to receive all who call on Him. He is ready to deliver, to set us free and give us His rest.
