The Final Verdict

court room

We have all of heard of court cases where a jury gives its final verdict. The final verdict is , well, final. God gave Jesus the authority to determine our final verdict. Thankfully He is great in mercy!

2 Chronicles 12:12-14 (MSG)

12 Because Rehoboam was repentant, God’s anger was blunted, so he wasn’t totally destroyed. The picture wasn’t entirely bleak—there were some good things going on in Judah.
13-14King Rehoboam regrouped and reestablished his rule in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king and continued as king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city God chose out of all the tribes of Israel as the special presence of his Name. His mother was Naamah from Ammon. But the final verdict on Rehoboam was that he was a bad king—God was not important to him; his heart neither cared for nor sought after God.

In this story a King named Rehoboam had made some very bad decisions throughout his reign. God had showed him mercy many times and kept him alive. God kept him on the throne as King for a very long time because he was repentant. However the final verdict was that he was a bad King.

The bible states that God was not important to Rehoboam and that his heart neither cared for nor sought God. That’s a very sobering and sad verdict. The part that is most sad to me is that he neither cared for nor sought God. All God ever wanted to do was protect and bless him but he didn’t care for God.

We all have met someone who did not care for us. It could have been a co-worker, a one time friend or maybe even a family member. It’s especially a very hurtful thing when it’s family. That’s what God was feeling in this story, he was family and was not cared for by Rehoboam .

Sometimes there is nothing we can do to change a person’s heart or how they feel about us. Our job as Christians is to continue to show Gods love just as He shows us His Love. We especially have to be sensitive to The Holy Spirit of God in showing our devotion and care for Him.

We want to love and seek God as we would our best friend or a loved one. By caring, loving and seeking after God we show how much we appreciate His great grace given to us through His Son Jesus. Also by doing this our love for others will be plain to see. Jesus has been given the right to determine our final verdict. As born again believers and by doing the above we can rest assured that our final verdict will be that we were good sons and daughters!
