We are going to make it!

The temptation will always come to give up in adversity. When everything around us is like a hurricane and we can’t see the light, it would be easy enough to give into temptation.

Acts 27:21-26 (MSG)

21-22 With our appetite for both food and life long gone, Paul took his place in our midst and said, “Friends, you really should have listened to me back in Crete. We could have avoided all this trouble and trial. But there’s no need to dwell on that now. From now on, things are looking up! I can assure you that there’ll not be a single drowning among us, although I can’t say as much for the ship—the ship itself is doomed.
23-26 “Last night God’s angel stood at my side, an angel of this God I serve, saying to me, ‘Don’t give up, Paul. You’re going to stand before Caesar yet—and everyone sailing with you is also going to make it.’ So, dear friends, take heart. I believe God will do exactly what he told me. But we’re going to shipwreck on some island or other.”

Apostle Paul was a prisoner on his way to Rome. He was traveling with two hundred and seventy-six in total, some were fellow prisoners, some sailors and some soldiers. Apostle Paul had been warned by God that they should not leave a certain port but the soldiers and crew dismissed his warning and headed out anyway. A hurricane like storm came against them and after several weeks the crew thought for sure it was over. Apostle Paul had a visitation from an angel of God who had a message that they would all make it.

This is an amazing story of Gods mercy and grace. God first tried to keep them from the storm by warning them not to head out as planned. Then after they were in the storm, God sent His angel to give a message of hope and encouragement, that they would make it.

So many times we proceed when God has given us instructions not to. We sometimes do not listen or ignore that still small voice. Often we do not know His instructions because we have not been reading The Bible.

Psalm 119:105 (MSG) By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path.

God’s Word is our instruction manual. The Word is like a compass that keeps us pointed in the right direction but we have to keep our eyes on it as we travel.

The temptation to give up in adversity will be easier to overcome when we know the outcome. Apostle Paul had been praying and received from God a message regarding their outcome of their situation. As we follow this example, we to can overcome the storms of our lives.

We have to keep our ears open to God’s voice, read His Word and follow His instructions. By doing all of this we can make it through the storms of life. By following His word and sharing The Good News of God’s Love, Jesus, we can participate in the rescue of all those who we are traveling with us in this life.

When we find ourselves in the midst of a life storm, let’s not get discouraged or give into the temptation to give up. Let’s dive into His Word, pray and believe what we read and hear. Having faith in what we read and hear from God is the key to seeing God fulfill what He says He will do. God’s grace and mercy are never-ending and His delivering power is endless!
