I love it when people help each other. It is always nice to get help when we ask for it. However when we have God ready and willing to help, waiting for our asking, why go anywhere else.
2 Chronicles 16:7-9 MSG
7-9 Just after that, Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, “Because you went for help to the king of Aram and didn’t ask God for help, you’ve lost a victory over the army of the king of Aram. Didn’t the Ethiopians and Libyans come against you with superior forces, completely outclassing you with their chariots and cavalry? But you asked God for help and he gave you the victory. God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to him. You were foolish to go for human help when you could have had God’s help. Now you’re in trouble—one round of war after another.”
King Asa had great victories in the past though God but soon forgot them when the King of Israel came against him. He immediately took the temple treasury and sent it to the King of Damascus to buy his help. The King of Damascus came to the aid of King Asa and attacked Israel. Immediately a prophet of God came to King Asa and told him that he made a mistake by asking for human help when he should have asked for God’s. The prophet also told King Asa that God is always on the alert and constantly on the lookout to help those who are committed to Him.
Where do we turn when we face troubles? We may not face human kings of armies coming against us but we do face enemies. It’s really about relationship and trust. When we seek and ask God for His help He takes great pleasure in coming to our aid. When He comes to our rescue we truly get rescued and completely delivered. When we place our confidence and trust in our own ability to deliver ourselves, we find ourselves in trouble.
There are a lot of temporary fixes out there in the world but none can truly set us free. The bible says that who the Son sets free is free indeed. Temporary fixes for the internal battles we face will leave us locked in a continual battle for deliverance.
We must remember God is always on alert for those who are totally committed to him and ask for His help. When we don’t turn to God in these trials we lose a great opportunity to build relationship with our Creator. Seeking an alternative source would be like a husband going to neighbor for a date instead of asking his wife, he’s in trouble.
Just as King Asa had seen great victories by God’s hand on his behalf, he also saw great defeat without Him. We can count on God to move on our behalf when we call on Him for His help. We must never forget where our help comes from. Our help comes from above, by God through Jesus, The Maker of heaven and earth!
